How it works and what the result means

Intervals are measured between successive presses of the same button. A short interval can be intentional; repeated unexpected short intervals deserve a comparison with another application.

Reading the result

A button that appears on press and clears on release is being delivered to the page. Side-button exposure depends on operating-system and browser handling.

What to check next

Test another USB port or application if one button is consistently absent. Back and Forward buttons may retain navigation behavior outside the test surface.

Context menus are suppressed only in the test area. Some operating systems reserve side buttons or gestures, so a missing browser event does not necessarily indicate hardware failure.

Frequently asked questions

Why is a side button unavailable?

The device driver or browser may reserve it. The tester cannot directly read switch wiring, so an absent browser event needs comparison before a hardware diagnosis.

How do I start the Mouse Tester?

Press each mouse button in the test area. For double-click diagnosis, make deliberate single presses and inspect the event log.

Does this tool require a download or an account?

No. Open the interactive tool above in a modern browser. The instructions and explanations are available even with JavaScript disabled; running a test needs JavaScript.

Why can two attempts give different results?

Power settings, background tasks, browser scheduling, operating-system input processing and device settings affect measurements. Compare repeated attempts with identical settings rather than the single highest score.
